Whether this is your first renovation or you are a seasoned remodelling veteran, you are in good hands with us.
Our process starts with a phone consultation. We will discuss what you are wanting to have done, why you want to do it and potentially some broad budget ranges. Renovation work can vary quite considerably in price. For example a typical 5 by 8 foot bathroom renovation can range between $6000 and $25,000 or more depending on materials and cabinetry specifications and options required like in floor heat, steam showers, etc… We never bump up the price to suit your budget but it is important for us to have an idea of what you are comfortable spending. If you have no idea that is fine too. We can discuss options during the site consultation.
The next step is to schedule a site visit. For a bathroom renovation this can be done in as little as 15 to 30 minutes. For larger projects this portion can take 1 to 2 hours or more. We don’t charge for the site visit or providing a written estimate.
Please have a “wish list” prepared and copies of any plans or inspiration photos ready. The more information we can gather at this stage the more accurate your pricing will be.
We will inspect the site and surrounding areas, take preliminary measurements and pictures and start to establish the construction plan that will be used to develop your written estimate.
We will provide a free written estimate in one of three ways. The first is called fixed price. This is provided when we can be almost or completely certain of the exact scope of work. The price you see is the price you pay. As long as we don’t uncover something unseen and you don’t make changes along the way then you know exactly what you will be spending before the project begins.
The second is called cost plus. In this option you only pay for the work that was done. It makes changes easier to implement and is a great option all around but especially if the scope of work cannot be fully established before, if for instance, a large portion of demolition or other work is done. You pay a fixed hourly rate for our in house labourers and carpenters and a percentage based management fee on materials and trade labour.
The third option is a combination of the preceding two. We can provide quoted amounts for some or most of the project and then allowance and budget amounts on materials and labour for which the true scope cannot be confirmed; like electrical and plumbing work concealed behind walls, granite countertop or other materials selections, etc… Again here, you pay based on the actual costs of the items in the budget and allowance sections. If the final price is less, than that amount is credited back to you and vice versa.
We are always available to answer any questions and will walk you through the quote line by line if you would like.
Once you have reviewed the quotation and decided that you want to move forward we will meet, sign the contract, deal with deposits and go over the tentative schedule. We will arrange for you to start making materials selections, if required, and set up meetings with all required designers, trades etc…
We are a true custom renovator. We don’t have a small showroom with one or two product options in each category. We have relationships with many retailers and wholesalers in Calgary and surrounding areas that we call on to make sure you get exactly what you want. If you don’t feel comfortable making selections just let us know and we will refer you to one of our design partners. Hiring a designer can be the difference between your project being great and your project being amazing.
Each home renovation project is different and we will be with you every step of the way.
